This week we have been sorting out the house, so I didn’t expect anything interesting to happen. A conversation with a fellow passenger on the bus in to town, however, led to the question ‘I’m going to do a really boaty thing… would you like to come for supper tomorrow?’
We often spend an interesting evening with a new neighbour on the cut, but this is the first time I’ve had the courage to invite a stranger into my suburban house.
Thankfully, he also ‘did the boaty thing’ and accepted the invite.
It turns out that he helps run open days for a historic bus collection. It was fascinating to hear about his passion for history, but then the conversation turned to the Bible. He wanted to discuss its historical accuracy, the way in which the books had been collated and how it sat amongst the religions and cultures of the day. All very interesting intellectual stuff, but, as I pointed out, looking at the brochure for the Bus Open Day, you can study the book, but it’s much more fun to go for a ride.
